Coronation Street enthusiasts have pinpointed a likely successor for the character Craig Tinker, following the unexpected news that actor Colson Smith is set to leave the programme.
Craig has been a staple on the street since his debut in at the tender age of 12, capturing the affection of the show's loyal viewers. He has been central to key plots, including his role as a police officer and his string of ill-fated romances in Weatherfield. Last year saw Craig devastated by the exit of his mother Beth portrayed by Lisa George after her year stint. Yet, this January brought the revelation that Craig too would be departing after 14 years on the soap.
Speaking on his podcast, Off The Sofa, Colson revealed he had known about his character's conclusion since October the previous year. As an actor we're all on year contracts," he shared, as reported Lancs Live. He added that there were no hard feelings, acknowledging that Craig "had become very isolated. He further commented: "In the past few years his girlfriend's left the show, his mum has left the show, he doesn't have any family.
I joined the show as an 11 year old for two episodes, and I leave as a 26 year old having done episodes. I love the show and I've loved every minute about it. Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
